ReHedge fund driver indicted for murder in George Washington Bridge road rage shooting
A former NYPD detective now working as a driver and security guard for a hedge fund faces a second-degree murder charge after a fatal road rage shooting that killed a Con Edison worker on the George Washington Bridge.
A former NYPD detective who had been working as a driver and security guard for a hedge fund now faces a second-degree murder charge in the fatal road rage shooting of Koran Irvine on the George Washington Bridge in New York City. A grand jury indictment upgraded the charges against Victor Romero, 62, and dozens of Irvine's colleagues from Con Edison turned out at the courthouse on Tuesday to show support for his family.
Irvine, 46, worked for the utility company for 20 years and leaves behind a wife and two children. Prosecutors allege that surveillance video shows Romero « aggressively tailgating » Irvine's car as the two men drove toward the bridge after a near collision. Romero then pulled up alongside the vehicle and fired at least one shot, according to the allegations.
Outside the courthouse, a Con Edison employee described the bond among the workers. « We're brothers here, » he said, according to FOX 5 NY. He said his family and Irvine's often spent time together and that their children were friends.
Authorities conducted a 24-hour manhunt to locate Romero after the shooting. He had previously posted a $1 million bail and entered a not guilty plea to initial first-degree manslaughter charges. At Tuesday's court appearance he came with his attorney and his own private security, and he made no public comments when approached by reporters.
Romero is scheduled for a Supreme Court arraignment on Nov. 23. Fox News Digital reached out to his attorney, Alan Abramson, who could not be immediately reached for comment.
