ReApple releases iOS 27.2 with expanded Siri AI and Messages features
Apple has released iOS 27.2 for iPhone, adding new memory and data-source capabilities to its Siri AI chatbot, language support beyond English, and new options in Messages and FaceTime.
Apple has released iOS 27.2, a free software update for any iPhone that can run iOS 27, and its most significant changes center on the company's Siri AI chatbot. The update gives Siri more access to a user's personal information and a better memory of past conversations.
Siri AI was the headline feature of iOS 27, which Apple released last month. The chatbot is Apple's effort to compete with more established AI assistants from OpenAI and Google. With iOS 27.2, Siri can now remember past conversations and bring that information into new chats, which allows it to answer later questions with more context. It can also pull data from a broader set of sources, including voicemails, Safari browsing history, photo attachments in Messages, and the attendees listed on Calendar events. Apple says these sources help Siri better understand the user's personal context.
Users also gain more control over that access. A revamped Settings pane lets people tell Siri to exclude specific apps as sources of personal context. Another new option lets users copy only part of a Siri answer instead of the entire response. The update also takes Siri beyond English. Users can now talk to Siri and receive replies in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, which marks a notable expansion for a feature that had previously operated only in English.
Apple has also added features to two of its most widely used apps. In Messages, quick action suggestions now appear below certain iMessages, letting users add details to the Calendar, Notes, or Reminders app with a single tap. If a contact texts a dinner reservation, for example, an Add to Calendar button appears beneath the message, making it easy to create the event. In FaceTime, group calls on iPhone 17 and later models can display "dual capture" content, so other participants can see video from both the front and rear cameras at the same time.
Installing the update requires only a few steps. Users should open the Settings app, tap General, and then tap Software Update. The iOS 27.2 release will appear on that screen, and users can follow the on-screen instructions to install it. Once the phone restarts, it will run iOS 27.2 with all of the features included in the release.
