ReCall of Duty Modern Warfare 4 adds classic map Shipment to multiplayer

Shipment, one of the series' most iconic maps, is now live in Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer in the standard 6v6 rotation and a dedicated Shipment 24/7 playlist.

Shipment, one of the most recognizable maps in the Call of Duty series, has been added to the multiplayer of Modern Warfare 4. The map is now part of the standard 6v6 map rotation and is also available through a playlist called Shipment 24/7, which lets players compete exclusively on Shipment with only the game mode changing.

The playlist is especially popular with players who grind for camos and challenges, since it offers a steady stream of kills on a single familiar map. The publisher announced the arrival on social media, with a post confirming that Shipment is live now in the game. The move is aimed squarely at fans who have long asked for the map's fast-paced, chaotic combat to return.

Shipment first appeared in 2007, nearly two decades ago, and its origins were largely accidental. According to accounts of the map's history, it was originally intended as a simple test environment for features such as split-screen play. It was mistakenly left in the final build. At that time, game updates were far less frequent, and changing a map after release carried a real cost, so the map stayed. Players responded well to it, and its quick, close-quarters design became a lasting part of the series' identity.

Since then Shipment has returned in a number of Call of Duty titles. It has also become a prominent fixture of the recently rebooted Modern Warfare saga, which is why its inclusion in Modern Warfare 4 has drawn attention. The map is the first post-launch addition to the game, though more content is already scheduled. The first season of post-launch content is set to debut next week. Details about its contents have not been confirmed, but based on previous seasons, players can likely expect new weapons, a battle pass, skins, and possibly new maps and modes.

The additions come as the game's reception is being weighed. IGN recently published its review of Modern Warfare 4's campaign and multiplayer, awarding the two modes a combined score of 7 out of 10. The reviewer praised the campaign as a highlight but said the multiplayer, while still fun, did not push the franchise forward in any major way. The review singled out the new shape-shifting Kill Block arena as a standout, while noting that little had been offered in terms of innovation or interesting map design. Overall, the review described the game as a good package from Infinity Ward, with its campaign as the main strength, placing it among the better recent entries in the series.
