ReJogger, 28, Stabbed in Neck on Brooklyn Waterfront Path
A 28-year-old jogger was stabbed several times in the neck on Friday evening along a waterfront path in Brooklyn. She is in critical condition and no suspect has been identified.
A 28-year-old jogger was seriously wounded after being stabbed several times in the neck on Friday evening while running on a path along the Brooklyn waterfront, the New York Police Department confirmed. According to the NYPD, the young woman is still alive, but her condition remains critical, and investigators have not yet identified the suspect.
The attack occurred around 8 p.m. near Shore Parkway and 17th Street Bay, in the Bath Beach neighborhood. According to police, the victim was running eastbound on the Shore Parkway Greenway when she was struck by several knife blows to the neck. Emergency responders transported her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she was admitted in critical condition. The NYPD did not specify the exact number of blows inflicted.
An NYPD spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Saturday that the woman was still alive. Police have not released her identity and have not identified a suspect. According to the New York Post, which cited police sources, the young woman was training for the New York Marathon scheduled for Sunday. The paper noted that the attack took place just days before this event, one of the most closely followed in the world, which attracts tens of thousands of runners each year.
In a statement sent to Fox News Digital, New York Road Runners, the organizer of the marathon, expressed its sadness and solidarity with the victim and her family. "We were saddened to learn of this horrific attack, our hearts are with her family and the running community," the organization said. NYRR added that its records show the young woman had previously taken part in its races, but could not confirm whether she was due to start Sunday's marathon.
It is not yet known what preceded the attack or whether the victim knew her attacker. The location of the assault overlooks Gravesend Bay, with views of Staten Island and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, according to the Post. This promenade, frequented by joggers and walkers, sits by the water in southern Brooklyn. Authorities have not indicated whether any other witnesses have been identified.
Police are asking the public for help with the investigation. Anyone with information can call the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip through the department's Crime Stoppers website. Tips are confidential.
