ReLinkedIn Marketing Guide: New Tools and 830 Million Users Reshape B2B Strategy
LinkedIn has updated its marketing guide with a new Creator Discovery feature, offering businesses a comprehensive look at the platform's 830 million users, advertising tools, and evolving campaign options.
LinkedIn has refreshed its marketing guide to include a new Creator Discovery feature, underscoring the platform's growing importance for business-to-business marketing. With more than 830 million users worldwide, LinkedIn has become an essential site for companies seeking to generate leads, build brand awareness, and establish thought leadership within their industries.
The platform's professional focus makes it a prime destination for finding potential customers. According to LinkedIn, more than 70% of its users are from outside the United States, with the U.S. leading at over 180 million users, followed by India, China, and Brazil. Approximately 310 million users are monthly active, and 40% of them visit daily. Nearly half of U.S. users log in monthly, and the user base skews young: 60.1% are between 25 and 34 years old, and 52% hold a college degree.
These figures are self-reported, and some caution is warranted. LinkedIn claims more than 199 million U.S. users, which would represent two-thirds of the nation's population and four-fifths of Americans aged 18 to 64. While many accounts belong to businesses rather than individuals, all social platforms host some ghost accounts. Still, LinkedIn's financial performance suggests strong engagement: its 2022 ad revenue reached $5.91 billion and is projected to hit $10.35 billion by 2027.
Understanding LinkedIn's culture is critical for marketers. The site and its users tend to present everything in the best possible light, giving many posts the polished feel of a press release. This environment allows businesses and leaders with distinct personas to stand out. However, direct criticism of competitors is rare; when it occurs, it is often passive-aggressive, such as praising a rival's minor recovery while subtly promoting one's own product.
LinkedIn also has its own jargon. The platform says it is the most used among Fortune 500 companies for CEO engagements, meaning any activity on the site. It counts 61 million senior-level influencers, 65 million decision-makers, and 17 million opinion leaders—the latter being people invited to join the LinkedIn Top Voices program.
For marketers, everything on LinkedIn is part of a campaign. The company page serves as a digital storefront, showcasing the brand, sharing updates, and connecting with audiences. A well-optimized page can improve search engine ranking, distribute content focused on audience interests, and build community through comments and engagement. Content should provide useful information, not press releases.
LinkedIn offers a variety of ad formats. Sponsored Content promotes organic posts to a wider audience. Text Ads are simple, text-based units in the feed. InMail Ads send sponsored messages directly to targeted members. Dynamic Ads personalize product displays based on user interests. Thought Leader Ads highlight posts from employees or industry experts, marked as promoted by the company, and LinkedIn reports they achieve a 2.3x higher click-through rate than single-image ads. Live Event Ads come in two forms: one links directly to an event to drive registrations, and the other is a 30-second sneak peek video.
All these formats can be targeted by demographics such as age, gender, location, and job title; interests like groups and topics; company size, industry, and seniority; and behaviors including website visits, lead generation forms, and event attendance.
LinkedIn Accelerate is a specialized campaign type designed for specific outcomes like lead generation or website visits. It offers a streamlined setup with pre-optimized targeting and generative AI tools to create images, videos, and other content. New objectives are being added, including brand awareness, engagement, website conversions, and video views. However, standard campaigns still provide more customization options.
With the addition of Creator Discovery, LinkedIn continues to evolve its marketing toolkit, giving businesses more ways to connect with a massive professional audience. As the platform grows, understanding its unique culture, tools, and targeting capabilities will remain essential for any B2B marketing strategy.
