Country music star Nate Smith has transformed his health and career after shedding more than 70 pounds, a journey he says has given him his life back. The «Bulletproof» singer, who once struggled with breathlessness during simple tasks like tying his shoes, now sets his sights on a new weight loss goal. Speaking at the Sports Illustrated and Tight End University's Tight Ends & Friends Concert in Nashville last month, Smith told People magazine he wants to get under 200 pounds and eventually return to 185 pounds, a weight he hasn't seen in years.
Smith, known for hits like «Whiskey on You» and «World on Fire,» said his motivation stems from a desire to perform at his best for fans. «Keeping the energy on stage and making sure I do that, because I think that takes care of the fans,» he explained. «I just feel better. It's nice to be able to wear clothes that I like.» The singer noted that he now fits into a size large shirt after wearing double XL for the past five or six years, a milestone he described as «feeling really good.»
The weight loss journey began after a medical scare in 2024 prompted Smith to address health issues including overeating and excessive drinking. Within months, he dropped nearly 50 pounds simply by reducing his daily caloric intake. «I still struggle with some binge eating,» Smith admitted at the time. «And if I want to have it, I'm going to have it. But I want to find a way to make it a treat versus a lifestyle thing. If I decide I'm going to have mac and cheese, it's okay.» He emphasized that he is «not even close to my goal» but is «way happier where I'm at» and feels better about his appearance.
Smith's transformation has brought tangible benefits beyond the scale. «I don't sweat anymore, which is amazing,» he said. «I used to be totally out of breath tying my shoes.» He added that he can now «jump around a lot more» on stage, a critical improvement for a performer whose career demands high-energy shows. The singer's openness about his struggles with binge eating and his gradual approach to change has resonated with fans, many of whom have followed his journey on social media.
The country music community has rallied around Smith, who rose to fame with his debut album «Nate Smith» in 2023. His weight loss story mirrors a broader trend in the entertainment industry, where artists increasingly prioritize health and longevity. Smith's determination to reach 185 pounds reflects a commitment to sustaining his career and connecting with audiences. «I think I want to get under 200 lbs.,» he said. «So I was like 275 lbs., somewhere in that world. But I want to get down to like 185 lbs. again.»
Smith's journey underscores the challenges of maintaining health in a demanding profession. His candidness about past habits and ongoing struggles offers a relatable narrative for fans facing similar issues. As he continues to shed pounds and gain confidence, Smith remains focused on the stage, where his renewed energy promises to deliver memorable performances. «I'm way happier where I'm at, and I feel like better about the way I look,» he said, embodying a message of gradual progress rather than perfection.
