Trey Parker and Matt Stone are renaming the show South Park to South America for its upcoming 29th season, a satirical jab at President Trump's renaming efforts and tech companies like Apple and Google that have complied with them.
South Park is officially changing its name to South America for the launch of its 29th season, as creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone take aim at President Donald Trump, Apple, and Google. The new season premieres Wednesday, September 16, at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central, with episodes available the following day on Paramount+.
In a statement announcing the change, Parker and Stone said: «Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation.» The joke references Trump's recent efforts to rename geographic locations and the willingness of major tech firms to go along with those changes.
Earlier this month, Apple renamed Lake Ontario as Lake America on its Maps app following an order from Trump amid the ongoing trade dispute with Canada. Google made a similar change for its U.S. users, which sparked public backlash. Trump had also posted AI-generated videos on social media, including one showing him kicking over a Lake Ontario sign and replacing it with one reading «Welcome to Lake America.» In 2025, Google re-designated the Gulf of Mexico after Trump declared it would be called the Gulf of America, a move that led Mexico to sue the company.
The name change is the latest in a series of politically charged moves by the long-running animated series. Season 28, which concluded in December, featured an overarching storyline in which Trump tried and failed to convince Satan not to go through with having their «butt baby,» otherwise known as the Antichrist. Vice President J.D. Vance even conspired with Trump in the show's narrative to murder the baby. Several episodes from that season drew responses from the White House.
Season 29 will consist of six episodes, with new installments dropping every two weeks on September 30, October 14, October 28, November 11, and November 25. This marks a slight expansion from recent seasons: Season 27 ended abruptly after just five episodes, and Season 28 also concluded after five. If the pattern holds, Season 30 could kick off in early 2027.
Parker and Stone are known for producing each episode week by week, a chaotic production schedule that allows the show to remain highly topical. That approach has occasionally caused delays. Comedy Central had to postpone the Season 27 finale just hours before it was scheduled to air, with Parker and Stone taking responsibility. «Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don't get it done,» the pair told Variety. «This one's on us. We didn't get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!»
The only previous missed air date in the show's history was due to a power outage. During their San Diego Comic-Con 2025 panel, held the day after the Season 27 opener that roasted Trump and drew a White House rebuttal, Parker admitted he and Stone were unsure what the next episode would be, calling the decision «super stressful.» The creators have said they are drawn to «new taboos» and the challenge of speaking out against the Trump administration.
Parker and Stone's deal with Paramount for global streaming rights includes the delivery of 50 new episodes over five seasons, with a commitment to produce at least 10 episodes per year.
