Elden Ring Movie Reportedly Has $200 Million Budget, Nearly Triple A24's Previous Record

ReElden Ring Movie Reportedly Has $200 Million Budget, Nearly Triple A24's Previous Record

Alex Garland's live-action Elden Ring adaptation reportedly carries a budget of nearly $200 million, making it A24's most expensive film by a wide margin.

Alex Garland's live-action adaptation of Elden Ring reportedly carries a budget of nearly $200 million, which would make it the most expensive movie in A24's history by a wide margin. The figure was shared in a Wall Street Journal report, which said its sources put the film's cost at "nearly $200 million." The project is based on FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin's 2022 role-playing game.

For A24, the arthouse-focused studio known for delivering memorable films on modest budgets over the past 14 years, the reported cost is a dramatic departure. The company's previous record holder was Marty Supreme, the Timothée Chalamet-led, Josh Safdie-directed drama released in 2025, which Deadline reported cost $70 million. That places the Elden Ring budget at nearly three times the cost of A24's next-most-expensive picture. Garland's Civil War was previously estimated at $50 million, according to Variety, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's The Smashing Machine reportedly carried a similar figure.

If the reported budget proves accurate, Elden Ring would fall in line with large studio productions such as Marvel's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which Variety reported cost $200 million, and Jurassic World Rebirth, which The Hollywood Reporter reported at $180 million. The scale marks a sharp shift from the company's usual approach and signals how seriously A24 is treating its first major venture into video game adaptation.

The project has been on the radar for some time. The movie was announced in May 2025 and is expected to premiere on March 3, 2028. Earlier this year, the studio revealed a cast that includes Kit Connor, known for X-Men and Warfare, Cailee Spaeny, who appeared in Alien: Romulus and Civil War, Nick Offerman of The Last of Us and Parks and Recreation, and Havana Rose Liu, from Tuner and Bottoms. Early production photos showed recreations of several iconic sets from the game, and filming wrapped in July of this year.

The budget figure also appears to have changed. Earlier reports had placed the film at just over $100 million, which suggests either that the initial estimate was inaccurate or that costs grew during production. The reporting does not explain which factors drove any increase, and the studio has not publicly confirmed the final number. Official images or a trailer are not expected for some time, leaving the production's spending and creative choices to be assessed once more of the film becomes public.
