DC Studios has hired Francis Galluppi to write a new John Constantine movie, bringing the occult detective back to the big screen with a filmmaker best known to horror audiences for his work on the Evil Dead franchise. The project is described as very early in development, and no other attachments, such as cast or a director, have been named. It is also unclear whether Galluppi will direct the film himself, leaving his exact role open for now.

Constantine was created by writer Alan Moore in the comics, where he appears as a cynical occult investigator who deals with demons, ghosts and other supernatural threats. Keanu Reeves played the character in the 2005 film Constantine, which followed a demon-hunting investigator moving between the human world and the realm of the supernatural. Reeves has kept the idea of a follow-up alive. In late 2025 he said a draft of a Constantine sequel had been finished, but there have been no public updates on that project since. It remains unclear whether Galluppi's script continues from that earlier work or restarts the story from the beginning.

Galluppi is the writer and director of Evil Dead Wrath, the seventh film in the Evil Dead series. The movie is a prequel to Sam Raimi's 1981 original and is set in 1972. It is scheduled for theatrical release on April 7, 2028. Before that, Galluppi wrote and directed his debut feature, The Last Stop in Yuma County. His pitch for an Evil Dead project was received by Sam Raimi's team in 2024, which led to his involvement with the franchise and set the stage for his move into studio work.

The hiring comes as DC's film slate continues to take shape under DC Studios. Clayface, another recent DC release, has earned more than $90 million worldwide so far. DC Studios declined to comment on the Constantine project, so the film's direction, timeline and full creative team will likely become clearer only through future announcements.
