Abdul El-Sayed, a Democrat and senator-elect from the state of Michigan, has found himself at the center of attention after a series of heated clashes with journalists. The greatest resonance came from a viral episode on Election Day, when he came into conflict with Sky News correspondent James Matthews. During the dispute, El-Sayed placed his hands on the journalist's shoulders and then questioned his right to vote in the United States. He then stated that Sky News has a small audience in the United States and walked away.

Matthews is a British correspondent who works in the United States. The episode quickly spread across social media and triggered a wave of criticism. Among those who described the politician's behavior as condescending or resembling bullying was television host Piers Morgan. This conflict, however, was not an isolated one, which is why broader questions are now being asked about El-Sayed's conduct.

Earlier, he argued with Tom Llamas of NBC over questions about possible family ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Llamas asked him about Egypt in 1970, and El-Sayed responded that this was merely rumors from a tweet, meaning unconfirmed information. Separately, he clashed with Audrey Fahlberg of the Free Press over a leaked audio recording related to remarks about Khamenei. El-Sayed refused to discuss this recording, calling it a "dog and pony show," meaning he perceived the question as staged.

The Fox News host Brett Baier was repeatedly interrupted by the politician during questions about his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. In an interview with Chuck Todd, he stated that he would confront Bill Maher on his show, which added another vivid example to his style. Heritage analyst Tim Young claims that El-Sayed evades questions about these ties. Communications coach Jocelyn Martinez, on the other hand, believes that precisely this blunt manner helped him win the election, so experts' assessments diverge.

El-Sayed defeated Republican Mike Rogers in the Michigan Senate election. His campaign team did not respond to requests for comment on the described episodes, so the politician's position on the criticism remains unknown.
