ReNaughty Dog to Fully Reveal Intergalactic in 2027, Confirms Two New The Last of Us Projects
Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann announced that the studio will fully reveal its next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Project, in 2027, and confirmed two new The Last of Us projects that will expand the series canon beyond Parts I and II.
Naughty Dog will fully unveil its next major game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Project, in 2027, studio head Neil Druckmann announced during the studio's annual The Last of Us Day. The sci-fi title, which Druckmann called Naughty Dog's most ambitious project to date, will receive a proper look at protagonist Jordan's adventure after a period of silence from the developer.
Writing on the Naughty Dog blog, Druckmann thanked fans for raising over $11,000 for AbleGamers before addressing the studio's current slate. He said the team will remain quiet for the remaining months of this year, but that "in 2027, that changes. We'll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan's wild sci-fi adventure." He added that there is "an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together," while asking for a little more patience: "we need to cook for just a little bit longer."
The update may serve as an indirect response to fans frustrated by Intergalactic's absence from the recent Sony State of Play presentation. Druckmann acknowledged the long wait since the studio last shared substantial news, saying, "We know it's been a long time since we've had much to share with you. We don't take your continued support for granted. We're working incredibly hard to make something worthy of your patience."
On The Last of Us, Druckmann clarified earlier comments that the studio was "not done" with the franchise by confirming that two new projects are in very early stages. "We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages – so we can't say much about them at this point," he said. "I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II. The world of The Last of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn't return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling."
Druckmann did not confirm whether either project is a video game, leaving the format of the expansions open. The announcement comes as the HBO television adaptation of The Last of Us is set to conclude with its upcoming third season, marking the end of the series' run on the network.
The Last of Us Day, an annual fan celebration, provided the backdrop for the updates. The fundraising total for AbleGamers, a charity focused on making video games more accessible to people with disabilities, was highlighted by Druckmann as part of the event. The combination of charity news, franchise expansion, and a concrete timeline for Intergalactic gave fans their most detailed roadmap of Naughty Dog's future in some time.
For now, the studio's focus remains on completing Intergalactic and nurturing the early-stage Last of Us projects. With a full reveal planned for 2027, Naughty Dog is signaling that its next chapter will arrive on its own schedule, even as it acknowledges the patience required from its audience.
