NBA 2K27 has surpassed Resident Evil Requiem to become the top-selling game of 2026 in the United States, according to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella. The basketball title ranked second in September sales, while Marvel's Wolverine led the month.
NBA 2K27 has overtaken Resident Evil Requiem to become the best-selling video game of 2026 in the United States, according to industry tracking from Circana. The basketball simulation, published by 2K Games, climbed to the top of the year-to-date chart after a strong September performance in which it ranked second among all titles.
Circana analyst Mat Piscatella reported that eight of the ten best-selling games in September were new releases, but it was NBA 2K27 that made the decisive move. The game surpassed Capcom's survival-horror title to claim the year-to-date crown. Marvel's Wolverine was the month's top seller, yet NBA 2K27 secured the larger overall victory by overtaking Requiem on the annual list.
The result is unsurprising given the consistent commercial strength of 2K's NBA franchise, which regularly finishes among the top five best-selling games in the US each year alongside other annual sports series such as Madden NFL. The NBA 2K series benefits from a predictable annual release cadence and a large installed base of basketball fans, factors that have historically kept it near the top of the charts.
Resident Evil Requiem, meanwhile, remains a major success for Capcom despite losing the top spot. The game launched earlier this year and quickly set new records for the franchise, becoming the fastest-selling entry in the series' history. It reached five million copies sold in its first five days and grew to six million within two weeks. In dollar sales terms, Requiem ranks among the top five best-selling Resident Evil games in the US, and it is the best-selling physical game on PlayStation 5 for 2026, with Alinea Analytics estimating 1.3 million discs sold to date.
The competition for the 2026 US sales crown is expected to intensify in the coming months. Analysts predict that Grand Theft Auto 6, scheduled for a November launch, will take the top spot for the year. The history of the annual chart shows that the best-selling game is not always an annualized sports Hogwarts Legacy claimed the honor in 2023, and Battlefield 6 did so in 2025, ending Call of Duty's long run atop the US market.
For now, NBA 2K27 holds the lead, with Resident Evil Requiem in second place year-to-date. The rest of the top ten includes 007 First Light in third, MLB: The Show 26 in fourth, Crimson Desert in fifth, Call of Duty: Black Ops II in sixth, Forza Horizon 6 in seventh, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream in eighth, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight in ninth, and Pokemon: Pokopia in tenth. The rankings are based on physical and full-game digital dollar sales.
