ReGeorgia dominates Ole Miss 42-7 and moves closer to SEC title game
No. 2 Georgia routed No. 12 Ole Miss 42-7 in Oxford, leading 28-0 at halftime and strengthening its hopes for the SEC championship game and the College Football Playoff.
No. 2 Georgia dominated No. 12 Ole Miss 42-7 on Saturday night in Oxford, a result that moved the Bulldogs closer to the Southeastern Conference championship game and a berth in the College Football Playoff. Georgia's position has improved, though neither goal is secured yet.
Georgia controlled the game from the opening drive, when it took a 7-0 lead and never looked back. The Bulldogs led 28-0 at halftime and 35-0 after three quarters. Quarterback Gunner Stockton threw four touchdown passes through three quarters, and he has now posted more than 1,600 passing yards and 17 touchdowns this season. Running back Nate Frazier added 107 rushing yards against the Rebels, and Georgia's rushing group of Frazier, Dwight Phillips Jr. and Bo Walker had combined for 19 touchdowns entering the contest.
Ole Miss struggled to move the ball against a Georgia defense that kept the home team out of the end zone for most of the night. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss did not throw a touchdown pass and was intercepted once. The Rebels' first score came on an 8-yard run by Shekai Mills-Knight, which cut the deficit to 35-7 late in the game. The loss was Ole Miss's most lopsided home defeat since 2018, when it fell 62-7 to Alabama, a reminder of how far the program has to climb to match the best teams in the conference.
The game also grew heated in the stands. Ole Miss trailed 21-0 when a pass interference call sparked anger among the home crowd, and some fans threw trash and bottles onto the field. The disturbance came as Georgia's lead kept growing, adding an unpleasant note to a night that was already one-sided on the scoreboard. Play was affected by the disruption while officials and stadium staff dealt with the debris on the field.
Georgia's position in the league picture is strong. Since 2023, Georgia and Ole Miss have posted the best records in the SEC, which makes the matchup a meaningful measure of contention across the conference. Coach Kirby Smart's team has been among the most consistent programs in that stretch, and this win gave the Bulldogs another statement result as the season moves into its final weeks.
Georgia still has a conference game left on its schedule, a home contest against Missouri next week. Those remaining games will determine how firmly the Bulldogs can lock down a spot in the SEC title game and in the College Football Playoff. Ole Miss, meanwhile, travels to Oklahoma in Week 11, a road game that will test how the Rebels respond after a night that exposed gaps on both sides of the ball.
Coaches Kirby Smart and Pete Golding expressed mutual respect for each other after the game, a tone that stood in contrast to the frustration in the stands. The result leaves Georgia in a stronger position, with its quarterback and running backs performing at a high level, while Ole Miss must regroup before its next test.
