ReCardinals Fans Buy Billboards Urging Bidwill to Sell Team
Arizona Cardinals supporters, frustrated by a 1-4 start and a home game dominated by Lions fans, have funded electronic billboards in the Phoenix area demanding owner Michael Bidwill sell the franchise.
Frustrated Arizona Cardinals fans have taken their discontent public, funding electronic billboards across the Phoenix area that call on owner and team president Michael Bidwill to sell the franchise. The message is blunt: «SELL THE TEAM. Funded by Cardinals Fans. #BIDWILLOUT.»
The campaign was organized by Nathan Kropp, a social media personality known as Mr. AZ Sports, after the team dropped four straight games following a season-opening win. Kropp said the turning point came during the Cardinals' recent home game at State Farm Stadium, where he observed more fans cheering for the visiting Detroit Lions than for the home team.
«And then I went on X, and people were just completely outraged,» Kropp said. «Like, I've never seen the fan base; I've seen the fan base upset.» He began making calls and quickly found enough disgruntled supporters to finance not one but two electronic billboards in the Phoenix area.
The display reflects a deeper frustration with a franchise that has not won a postseason game in more than a decade. Kropp said the hardest part of being a Cardinals fan is watching the team spin its wheels year after year without meaningful progress. «They want something to change,» he said of the fan base. «Like, it's hard to be a Cardinals fan right now.»
The Cardinals, who are 1-4, did not comment on the billboards. While the campaign is unlikely to force a change in ownership, it puts the organization on notice that a segment of its fan base is organizing and spending money to make its displeasure known.
The billboard effort is the latest sign of unrest in Arizona, where patience with the team's direction has worn thin after another slow start. For Kropp and the fans who contributed, the goal is less about a single billboard and more about signaling that the status quo is no longer acceptable.
