ReRockstar Releases GTA 6 Launch Trailer Ahead of November 19 Debut
The long-awaited launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 has arrived, introducing a new song from the game's original score and offering a closer look at protagonists Jason and Lucia as they navigate a criminal conspiracy across the state of Leonida.
Rockstar Games has released the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, formally ushering in the next era of the blockbuster franchise more than a decade after the release of Grand Theft Auto 5. The trailer arrived with millions of fans flooding Rockstar's social media accounts, and it crossed one million views on YouTube in roughly half an hour as the company's metrics struggled to keep pace with the surge.
The short trailer centers on the dual protagonists, Jason and Lucia, who open up about the struggles that have shaped them. Jason, sporting long hair for much of the footage, discusses the obstacles he has faced since a less-than-glamorous military departure. Lucia is shown wearing a monitoring anklet during an intimate shower scene and at one point asks, «Are we gonna be OK» amid a storm of crime. The video description frames the pair's predicament: «Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.»
The trailer also debuts «Flower in a Hurricane,» a track from the game's original score composed by Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Rockstar confirmed the song will appear on the official GTA 6 soundtrack album. Helicopters feature heavily throughout the footage: one crashes behind an assault rifle-toting Jason, Lucia rides another through the streets with a grenade launcher in hand, and a third carries a chained load of presumably stolen cargo through the city like a wrecking ball, shattering a row of windows on another building. A once-again short-haired Jason emerges from a helicopter in a later shot, only for the scene to cut to him and Lucia jumping off a roof into a hotel pool.
The early response from Grand Theft Auto fans has been enormous, with commenters expressing disbelief at finally having a launch trailer in hand. «I thought I would never live this moment,» reads one top comment, while another says, «We are really at the finish line!!!» The trailer was captured on PS5, with a clear PlayStation marketing push bookending the footage. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The launch trailer lands as the game's portrayal of Jason and Lucia's relationship draws wider cultural attention. The pair's intimacy in the footage has coincided with public discussion about whether emotional attachments to video game characters can amount to infidelity, a question that has circulated in recent coverage of the game. For Rockstar, the trailer serves as the final major marketing beat before a release that has been anticipated since the previous entry in the series more than a decade ago. The company has also emphasized the technical ambition behind the long development cycle, including a realistic sweat system that makes Jason and Lucia perspire based on how hard they dance.
