ReHBO's Harry Potter Series Adds Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley for Season 2
Rafe Spall joins HBO's Harry Potter television series as Arthur Weasley, with Molly Hewitt-Richards cast as Moaning Myrtle and Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey. Filming is underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK.
HBO's Harry Potter television series has cast Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley, the patriarch of the Weasley family, in a key addition to the show's second season. The production also confirmed that Molly Hewitt-Richards will play Moaning Myrtle and Jasper Ambrose will take on the role of Colin Creevey, expanding the roster of characters from J.K. Rowling's wizarding world.
The three actors join a series that is currently filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom, the same facility where the original Harry Potter films were shot. Season 2 is in active production, and the new cast members will appear alongside the established ensemble as the adaptation moves deeper into the books.
Spall is a British actor known for his work across film and television, including roles in The Big Short, Prometheus, and the sitcom I Give It a Year. His casting as Arthur Weasley places him at the center of the Weasley family, a beloved fixture of the Harry Potter series. Arthur Weasley is the father of Ron Weasley, Harry Potter's best friend, and works at the Ministry of Magic in the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office.
Molly Hewitt-Richards will portray Moaning Myrtle, the ghost who haunts the girls' bathroom at Hogwarts. The character, whose real name is Myrtle Warren, was killed by the basilisk in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and has appeared in multiple installments of the franchise. Jasper Ambrose takes the role of Colin Creevey, a Gryffindor student and enthusiastic photographer who idolizes Harry Potter.
The HBO series represents a fresh adaptation of Rowling's seven novels, with each season expected to cover one book. Season 1 is set to adapt Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, while the second season will move into Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The casting of Moaning Myrtle and Colin Creevey aligns with that second-book storyline, in which both characters play notable roles.
Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden has long been associated with the Harry Potter franchise, serving as the production home for all eight original films. The television series returns to the same soundstages, maintaining a visual and production continuity with the earlier movies while introducing a new generation of actors.
The announcement comes as HBO continues to build out its cast for the high-profile adaptation. Details about additional characters and the full release schedule have not been disclosed. The series is expected to debut on HBO and its streaming platform, though no premiere date has been confirmed.
Spall's involvement has drawn particular attention, given his established career and the prominence of Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter narrative. The character appears throughout the series as a warm, eccentric figure and a surrogate father to Harry. Fans have closely followed casting news for the adaptation since it was first announced.
Production on Season 2 remains ongoing at Leavesden. Further casting updates and a broadcast window are anticipated as filming progresses.
