ReBlumhouse and MatPat Team Up for Amanda the Adventurer Movie

Blumhouse Productions and YouTube star Matthew «MatPat» Patrick announced at New York Comic Con 2026 that they are partnering to adapt viral indie horror games into films, starting with Amanda the Adventurer.

Blumhouse Productions is joining forces with YouTube star Matthew «MatPat» Patrick to produce a series of films based on viral indie horror games, with Amanda the Adventurer set as the first project. The partnership was confirmed during a panel at New York Comic Con 2026, where representatives from both sides said the YouTuber has «a few projects in the works» with the studio.

«I am proud to announce that I’m working with Blumhouse to launch some new movies. I am taking some of my all-time favorite indie games and horror channels from the interwebs and partnering with Blumhouse to bring them to the big screen,» MatPat told the audience. The announcement positions the creator, known for his long-running YouTube series analyzing video game lore, as the latest online personality to move into film production.

Amanda the Adventurer is a first-person puzzle-solving horror game in which the player unravels a disturbing mystery tied to a low-budget animated children’s show of the same name. MatPat said he and Blumhouse are already in talks with writers and directors and are «actually moving fast» to get the adaptation made. He described the tone as «horror with heart,» adding that the title character is «this horrifying but tragic character» and that the story asks, «Can you trust the media being put in front of your kids?»

The project reflects a broader surge of interest in indie horror games as source material for film. Earlier this year, YouTube star Mark «Markiplier» Fischbach released Iron Lung, a self-funded horror movie based on an indie game of the same name, which drew attention for its independent production model. Sean «Jacksepticeye» McLoughlin has also revealed he is at the helm of an animated Bloodborne movie. These moves suggest that creators with large online followings are increasingly being trusted to shepherd genre projects.

Studios appear to be responding to a proven appetite. The success of Kane Parson’s Backrooms earlier this year demonstrated that internet-native horror can translate into a theatrical hit, prompting a wave of greenlit creepypasta adaptations including The Mandela Catalogue, Siren Head, and even The SCP Foundation. Indie horror games have long cultivated dedicated online audiences, and that built-in viewership is now being viewed as a viable foundation for film franchises.

Given the viral nature of Amanda the Adventurer, speculation about what MatPat and Blumhouse might adapt next has already begun. One likely source of future projects is the YouTube channel of CoryxKenshin, a popular destination for indie horror gameplay. That has led to guesses that a Puppet Combo movie could be on the way, with titles like Nun Massacre cited as the kind of wild theatrical experience fans might expect. No further titles have been confirmed beyond Amanda the Adventurer.

The announcement adds to a busy New York Comic Con for film and television news, which also included major reveals from Marvel’s panel, a new Avatar: The Last Airbender show, and interviews with talent such as Daredevil star Charlie Cox. For now, Blumhouse and MatPat are focused on assembling the creative team for Amanda the Adventurer, with both sides signaling they intend to move quickly.
